A new Swiss Re sigma study just came out, titled "Microinsurance - Risk Protection for 4 Billion People".

As someone interested in and working on Microinsurance, this was fascinating to me -- really validated what myself and my coworkers at Avana Microinsurance are trying to achieve.
But I wanted to start a discussion surrounding other peoples' thoughts on microinsurance as a tool for poverty alleviation. As the SwissRe study says, Microinsurance can provide risk protection for 4 billion people and can translate into a potential premium volume of $40 billion.
Do you think that microinsurance can successfully marry profit and social incentives to achieve both these large returns and help 4 billion people??
Looking forward to your thoughts!
