Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA is a nonprofit international development organization that delivers technical and management assistance in agribusiness, financial services, enterprise development, community development and food security in order to promote broad-based economic growth and vibrant civil society. ACDI/VOCA currently has approximately 97 projects in 41 countries and revenues of $140 million.

Program Director

We are currently seeking a Program Director for a USAID-funded program that supports the development and expansion of economic assistance programs that fully utilize cooperatives and credit unions. The project’s primary focus will be to develop, document, employ and disseminate a cooperative development program design that will encourage the long-term development of self-reliant cooperatives. This program will build a strategic framework integrating cooperative development best practices in support of current USAID priorities, field test and ground truth the framework, and then conduct dissemination and outreach activities. This position is contingent upon ACDI/VOCA being awarded the program.

Responsibilities:

  • Assume responsibility for overall program management, including administrative, financial and personnel management.
  • Develop a strong, coherent vision within the cooperative development program design activity and carry out innovative strategies to achieve program objectives.
  • Provide organizational and technical leadership, oversight and support to all aspects of the program, including but not limited to:
  • Conducting investigative research to develop framework
  • Hosting workshops and conferences with industry stakeholders
  • Developing case studies and tools
  • Overseeing field testing activities
  • Disseminating best practices to USAID missions and implementing partners.
    • Ensure project activities correspond with other cooperative development knowledge management efforts, including those by the Overseas Cooperative Development Council and current Cooperative Development Programs.
    • Carry out marketing and outreach efforts for cooperative design framework with donors, particularly USAID missions, and implementing partners.
    • Ensure quality control and timeliness of all deliverables, including work plans, reports and other USAID reporting deliverables.
    • Utilize results-based management, using the monitoring and evaluation framework as a primary management tool.

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of experience in knowledge management and/or knowledge management technology, social and organizational capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, cooperative development, and/or agricultural development is required.
  • Master’s degree in a discipline relevant to knowledge management is required.
  • Prior experience working in emerging markets and at least five years of experience as a Program Director for a similar program is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish strong working relationships with organizations and international donors is required.
  • Familiarity with USAID procedures and policies is required.
