what do you think of mobile portability? to me, being introduced from starting 1st April it's a good idea. Since fix-ability from change of network to another will be possible with cost of same tariff rates. while one can retain his/her prefix number

Dear Liza,

Since I need seed money to start-up my social entrepreneurial activities. I submitted a write-up for a grant with Breakthrough Innovation Grant. www.breakthroughinnovationgrant.com

I am soliciting points & comments from social network users like SEEP Community for my B.I.G write-up http://www.breakthroughinnovationgrant.com/cooperative-adapts-micro...

I hope you can help me on this by posting on SEEP wall for sharing members.

Thank you.

There is another open source microfinance application called octopus, you can make mifos work offline, The way software is developed, its impossible for the developers to think of all requirements, the reason its made open source is to allow developers to make modifications to suit their unique needs, its impossible for a software application to meet the needs of every MFI, small, big or medium

Cescy your statements are general, when you say technology is expensive, what exactly is expensive, if you could be more specific, then some people might be able to guide you

Cescy,

There is a wonder facility that you can link to supported by CGAP called the IS Fund.

This facility enables you to hire a consultant, whom you can pick from a list of consultants on the IS Fund site who then prepares a needs assessment for you.

IS Fund has potential to support your implemetnation up to a given threshold. I encourage you to visit www.isfund.org and interact with the site and seek whatever support you may need...

Of course, yours trully is an IS Fund auditor and would love to work with your organization to support your journey to identifying a triue solution for your needs.

Sincerely,

Kiringai

Top of the day to you.
frankly speaking, the cost of securing a state of the art or even a relatively good technology in Micro finance banks in Nigeria is just too high especially in the Nigeria. Micro finance banks in the rural areas in Nigeria especially mine is finding it so difficult to use high technology. Not that we dont love or appreciate it, but the cost are too high and the government is doing nothing to help. They only assist the ones (MFB) that dont need their money. What can be done in this situation knowing fully well that every kobo expended on project has an effect on our customers either in small measure or in a big way. Our customers shouldn't be bringing this heavy cost because every kobo matters to them. Please help.

Yes Mifos offers a cloud-based solution and indeed the software license is free; However in my humble opinion it does not yet fully address the needs of mid-sized MFIs. It is fine for start-up and small sized MFIs. Also worth noting is that currently, as far as I know, it does not offer an offline solution which is critical when using a cloud-based solution, i.e. if the internet connection to the cloud fails, MFI operations cannot come to a standstill.
