Despite their surroundings, urban refugees have limited access to everyday necessities such as food and shelter. Trying to make ends meet in a foreign city is hard; urban refugees often lack the necessary job skills and face legal, cultural and linguistic barriers to making a living.
Help recognize outstanding individuals supporting this neglected population. Two refugee, internally displaced or asylum-seeking women or young people (up to age 30) will be selected to receive the 2011 Voices of Courage Award. The honorees’ organizations will each receive a $5,000 grant from the Women’s Refugee Commission to support the incredible work supporting displaced people
in their communities.
